Overview

The International Initiative of Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC) is pleased to invite you to participate in the I2LEC Online Open Training Program in September /October 2025. This virtual training program aims to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement officers and other stakeholders in combating environmental crimes. Delivered by multidisciplinary experts from law enforcement, international organizations, and academia across four continents, the training will be available in four languages: Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

The training is organized by I2LEC and EnviCrime Academy , with the participation of professionals from Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe, and international organizations such as EUROPOL, INTERPOL, EUFJE, EnviCrimeNet, WWF, GITOC, among others.

The training is aimed  at law enforcement professionals. It will be divided into three thematic blocks, and cover aspects such as global trends, investigative techniques, international conventions and legal frameworks.

 

BLOCK I Widlife and Biodiversity Crimes

This block is designed to equip law enforcement officers with essential knowledge and skills to address and combat illegal wildlife trafficking. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of this kind of crime, and the tools and methods for conducting police investigations. Case studies all over the world will be presented focusing on cross border cooperation mechanisms.

BLOCK II Hazardous Substances and Poisons

BLOCK II provides an introduction to the investigation of hazardous waste and poison-related environmental crimes. It covers key legal frameworks, common types of offenses, and indicators of illegal activity. Participants learn investigative techniques, evidence collection methods, and inter-agency cooperation practices. Real case studies illustrate challenges and succesful approaches. This course is aimed at law enforcement, environmental inspectors and legal professionals.

BLOCK III Waste and Pollution Control 

This block offers an overview of waste and pollution control from an enforcement perspective. It covers key environmental regulations, types of waste and pollutants and mechanisms for monitoring compliance. Participants learn how to identify violations, conduct inspections and gather admissible evidence. This block includes real-world examples and emphasizes cross-sector collaboration. It is designed for law enforcement officers, environmental regulators and legal practitioners.
